Awards to young people

Club celebrates excellence in our Youth.


Three excellent young people, all pupils at Ulverston Victoria High School recently attended a meeting of our club to receive awards for their achievements. 

Jess Gillam

Jess is a student at UVHS and is a member of their famous Swing Band. She is the first Young Ambassador for the renowned Japanese Saxaphone manufacturer Yanagisawa. For more information about their instruments log onto www.yanagisawasaxophones.com

Joe Ellwood

Joe is also a student at UVHS combining study with a strenuous training schedule. He hopes to be a member of the GB squad in the 2016 Olympics. The award is in memory of Joe Harrison a local sportsman and former member of our Club.

Molly Moss

Molly also is a student at UVHS and has already read her winning entry about the Olympics to the District 1190 conference. She hopes to continue studying English.

Young Musician

more Jess Gillam has played at the District Conference and recently played with the Halle Orchestra. Our Club also provides a Bursary in the Junior Brass Band category in the prestigious, annual, South Cumbria Musical Festival.

Youth Speaks

more It is hoped to encourage entrants to this District competition.

Young Citizen

more We will continue to search for a young person worthy of the award.

Joe Harrison Award for Sporting Excellence

more The late, former Vice President of our Club Joe Harrison's family wished to remember Joe by donaring a Cup and a Memorial Board to be housed in the Secondary School to be awarded to the Student showing Sporting Excellence.

The Richard Piper Award

more Richard Piper is a member of a Rotary Club in South Island, New Zealand. On a visit to our Club he left an amount of money to be presented to the 3 secondary students who had shown the biggest improvement during the year.

Rotary Young Person ENrichment RYPEN

more We hope to nominate 2 students who will benefit from attending this course. Unfortunately this year we have been unable to find suitable candidates.

The Calvert Trust

more Each year we hope to send 2 Young people to attend this course. We are fortunate that a Club member accompanies and supports them during the week away.
