The annual Judy Murray Tennis Competition for 5 to 10 year olds took place at Dunblane Sports Club on 12 August 2012.

Going for Gold

60 budding tennis stars competed in last Sunday's Judy Murray Junior Tennis Cups played at Dunblane Sports Club which raised over £1500 for Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and the Sports Club. The event was jointly sponsored by The Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan & Dunblane, together with the Sports Club. The kids were delighted when Judy herself appeared and then spent most of the afternoon playing and chatting to them during the competition.

Organiser, Fiona Bennie of the Sports Club, was delighted with the outcome and hoped it would encourage more children to come along and enjoy the sport.

This year there were two categories: the winner of the Mini Cup for 5-7 year olds was 5 year old Rosie Woodward from Comrie while 9 year old Fraser Sheriff from Dunblane collected the Junior Cup for the 8-10 year old group. Judy presented both winners with a small trophy to keep and the main trophy which will be returned for next year's competition. They will both also get a further prize of a portrait painted by local artist Derek Collins.

All competitors got a certificate and other small prizes; Aurora Nevin will receive a tennis lesson from Judy for raising the most sponsorship.

Rod Jones from the Rotary Club said it had been an exceptionally successful event and made even more special by the presence of such a good number of parents and friends to cheer on the youngsters. He thanked Judy for coming along and Fiona Bennie and her team for all their hard work, but especially the youngsters who had participated and had so evidently enjoyed the experience.
