Thornhill & District Rotary helped avoid lost children at the Drumlanrig Castle Galloway Country Fair

The Rotary Club helped ensure that young children did not get lost for too long at this year's Galloway Country Fair held at Drumlanrig Castle, Thornhill over the weekend of 18th / 19th August.

Using wristbands with a mobile telephone number it meant that some 300plus mothers and fathers could relax knowing that if a youngster wandered away they could soon be reunited when found by the organisers.

At a very busy but somewhat damp fair mother and fathers, grannies and grandpas soon took up the free offer of this great and simple idea but many made generous donations to Rotary Charity funds.

The process raised many a wry smile with some parents offering to pay more if we ensured they did get lost, a number suggested using the wrong telephone numbers whilst a few wifes wanted husbands tagged for later in the day in the beer tent but all in jest. Well, so we thought anyway.

In the process Rotarians had a great couple of days meeting friends old and new from all over the world including America and Australia. For some of them the wristband tagging idea was not new but still much appreciated.
