Breath of life

The purpose of this project is to provide anaesthesia equipment to developing countries. Anaesthesia is the Cinderella of medical practice yet it is very significant as it preserves lives. Its provision is a significant way of reducing maternal and child mortality.

The need in developing countries is for equipment that works reliably in areas where supplies of gas cylinders can be erratic and costly as well of areas that have unreliable electrical supplies. It must be able to be operated by nurses with limited training.

With help from other Rotary Clubs, we have supplied a Diamedica machine to Juba Teaching Hospital in South Sudan and one to Rwanda and are confident these 2 machines are saving lives.   In more recent times we have decided to support The Charity Safe Anaesthesia Worldwideand help other Rotary Clubs and organisations that are considering similar projects.
