Rotary GB&I Committee News

title-bottom

Welcome to the October 2012 Service News, linking you to news, resources and information from all of Rotary GB&I's Service Committees. It is emailed, monthly, to all 30,000+ members whose email addresses are on the RI database. If Club Secretaries are aware of members with an email address, but not on the RI database, please forward to them (and, ideally, add their details to the database). Service News editions are archived on the Rotary GB&I website, in the Updates area.

If you cannot read this email properly (due to your email settings), click on this link and a web page showing the email as intended will open.

Get Ready for Winter

This winter, Rotary GB&I will be working with the Government, the Met Office and other partner organisations taking part in the Get Ready for Winter campaign. This campaign gives advice and guidelines on how to help people through the colder months, and Rotary GB&I will be focussing on how to support your community throughout the winter.

The campaign will offer a great platform to show the work that Rotary do in supporting communities, and clubs and districts are invited to communicate the work they are doing through Twitter by using the hashtag #winterready.

More information can be found on the Rotary GB&I website.

Children in Need

This year, Rotary GB&I will once again be supporting Children in Need. It is an event that many clubs will be involved in raising money for, with events going on up and down the country on Friday November 16th.

Children in Need merchandise is available from the Rotary GB&I Secretariat, and more information can be found on the special page on the website.

A new leaflet on Rotary Spring Clean is now available on the Rotary GB&I website. Clubs are encouraged to involve community groups, schools and the general public in cleaning up their area. Events during Climate Week, 4th to 10th March, should be registered with that organisation.

Revised leaflets are now also available on the Rotary GB&I website on Hospital Equipment & Wheelchair Recycling, and also for The Woodland Trust. Please note that applications from The Woodland Trust for free trees for planting in spring 2103 should be made as soon as possible and no later than Christmas Day!  A new category of Wetland Trees are now available in packs of 105 or 420.

Entries for the Rodney Huggins Environment Award are now being sought. The closing date is the 31st January 2013 but entries sooner than later would be appreciated. There is also cash for the winning entries!

We want to try and do something about eradicating Himalayan Balsam. Suggestions on how best to do this would be welcome. This noxious weed is getting out of control in some areas to the detriment of other wildlife.

Effect of new District boundaries on District Designated Funds

Please see the Foundation committee website pages for the latest message from Ban Ki- Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations on the final stages in the campaign to end polio and the effect of the new district boundaries on District Designated Funds.

It is confirmed that, for the purposes of calculating DDF, past contributions made by clubs move with those clubs to their new District. For example, if a new District is formed in 2013/14 their DDF will be comprised of 50% of the Annual Fund-Share giving from the clubs in 2010/11. This amount is calculated manually then transferred from the old District to the new District in the SHARE database.

If the old District has a remaining DDF balance, then the balance is distributed among the new Districts based on the percentage of contributing clubs (in 2010/11) which moved to that District.

So when a new District is formed the DDF is not lost, it follows the club wherever it goes.

Also, please remember that November is Rotary Foundation Month!

Sustaining Member Pins
