Plastic surgeon Colin Brady reminsces

Wed 7th November 2012 at 19.30 - 22.30

In one of the best talks for this year, Colin entertained us with his stories of his younger life in the black country as a doctor and the surgery cases he came across during that time.

Colin was a very entertaining speaker. His experiences in the Black Country in the 60's and 70's as a reconstructive surgeon were wide ranging and fascinating. He showed us photographs of tumours and facial injuries that you rarely see these days with the advent of seat belts and more awareness in the public's mind of what can be treated. In those days, in the "Matto Grosso" region that Colin worked, the discomfort of large growths in the mouth or on the face were accepted and treatment not sought until such things made life difficult. Some of the photos were quite gory as you may imagine! But his talk also included photos of life in the area at the time including a photo ( see above ) of the region where the Merry Hill shopping centre now sprawls. Many thanks Colin for showing us a snapshot of your life, and that of your patients, at that time in your career. Very enjoyable.
