Technology Tournament at Waingels College

RC of High Wycombe helped RC of Loddon Vale to run their first Technology Tournament

Winning Team from Waingels College

Until now the only Technology Tournament (TT) in District 1090 has been in the Wycombe District of Buckinghamshire - initially by RC of Marlow Thames and more recently by RC of High Wycombe.

As a first step towards encouraging more Clubs to take up this excellent scheme, RC of Loddon Vale moounted a single-school TT at Waingels College near Sonning.

The MC was Colin Wells, with helpers from RCs of Marlow and Loddon Vale and three non-Rotarians.

The Chief Judge was Gerald Clerehugh (RC of Marlow) who was active in running the TT before it was taken on by High Wycombe.

The intention was to demonstrate how good the TTs are, both for competing teams and organizers, with the aspiration that in 2014 more schools in the Thames Valley/Reading area will compete.

Despite the nominated teacher being in hospital, the day was a great success.

School staff who witnessed the event were astounded at the pupil's evident level of concentration and commitment - some even cut short their lunch break to press on with their project!

When asked whether they would like to do another one in the future every hand shot up without a moment's hesitation (though we suspected that this was because a TT is better then lessons).

One young lad took even his team's model home - we hope that the College will display the winning model among the sports trophies.
