In 2012 we started looking at a scheme to provide solar lighting to slum areas of Mumbai and outlying villages. For those areas when the sun goes down it remains dark until dawn. If all goes well the money we and ten Indian Clubs have raised will nearly be matched by a grant from Rotary's charity, The Rotary Foundation, to provide a total of $67,000.

For this money 125 homes will get lighting and in doing so will enable a whole range of activities and the possibility of undertaking some work at home. We are also providing solar lighting to 2 schools, this will increase study time

All in all we hope the lives of a lot of people will be improved with the opportunity for study and employment.

The Solar Project was started on the 24th February 2013 in two new hamlets of Pendhari and Kompada a total of 45 houses. The next site was inaugurated on the 1st March 2013 at the village of Sasauli near Aathgaon ahead of Shahpur Nasik Road; this is in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Mundi & Bombay Central. These villages now have light for the first time after 27 years.
