David is Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Strathclyde University and past president of Crieff Probus Club whilst also being tasked in submitting a regular column on Amnesty in the Quair.

Amnesty itself evolved from the origins of freedom organisations after the end of the Second World War, with the introduction and inception of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

The UDHR which was signed by 56 States and included 30 articles of freedom, and was the part brainchild of Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of the late president of the U.S.A.

Amnesty International itself grew out of the roots of UDHR when it was formed in 1961 by 2 students in Lisbon (founder member being Peter Bennenson)
