Dictionaries 4 Life
The Rotary Club of St. Ives has supported the 'Dictionaries 4 Life' for a number of years.
A 'Dictionary 4 Life' is a beautiful illustrated dictionary, targeted primarily at year six school leavers. As part of Rotary International's overall Literary intitiatives, the idea is to award it to children moving to secondary school. The intention is for the dictionary to support the child throughout their secondary school education, hopefully stimulating a lifelong interest in language, books and learning.
A dictionary is presented to each Junior School pupil in our area, as part of a special ceremony, normally part of the final school assembly of the year.
The local schools participating in the scheme are , The St. Ives Junior School (The Burrows), St. Uny Junior School (Carbis Bay), Nancledra Junior School.
The staff have been very enthusiastic about their pupils being recipients of this great gift, and as you can see from the photo above, the children themselves have loved receiving their own personal dictionary.
Recently Joan Symons, President of St Ives Rotary Club, attended a school assembly at Nancledra Academy where she was delighted to meet the Year 6 Pupils and present each of them with a copy of the Dictionary 4 Life. This book is to mark their transition from Primary to Secondary education and whilst looking forward to the multitude of new opportunities awaiting them at Secondary School they will have happy memories of their time at Nancledra Academy.
The Dictionaries 4 Life project will see all year 6 pupils in the St Ives area receiving their book before the end of term.
