Cheadle & District Rotarian raises funds for Macmillan

Rotarian Laurence Foster walked across the north of England to raise funds for Macmillan. Starting 16th August 2013, he travelled the first half of the coast to coast route around 100 miles.

What makes someone undertake such a long walk?   And on his own too!

Laurence says "I decided to do the walk in support of Macmillan as over the last few years I have lost relatives and friends to cancer, and on each occasion  both the patient and the family have been given incredible and essential support from Macmillan. I don't think that there is a person in this country who hasn't been touched in some way by cancer, from the loss of a close family member to hearing that an acquaintance has cancer. For each of these cases Macmillan is in the background providing support at crucial times. This suddenly struck me recently when a close friend, with the world at his feet, was diagnosed with a terminal form of cancer, and a Macmillan nurse arrived on his door-step.  I think it's a very worthy charity, and hopefully we can raise funds in its support."

Laurence covered all his journey expenses so all of the £1400 raised, went to Macmillan.
