REFURBISHING CASTLE DOUGLAS TOWN SIGNS

The five town signs which are located on each of the approach roads to Castle Douglas have been refurbished and restored to their original charter colours by members of Castle Douglas Rotary Club.

The restoration of the 5 Town Signs has long been the wish of the Community Council but they had no means of carrying it out.

When the Rotary Club suggested making this task their project for their 50th Anniversary in 2013, the offer was warmly accepted. John Corrie of Tongland told us that the design of the coat of arms was the result of a local competition that was won by the celebrated artist and illustrator, Jessie M King of Kirkcudbright.  It was then granted full
