Project Shalom: To Assist Orphans and Vulnerable children in Uganda: Speaker Juliet Nasuuna

Project Shalom was founded in 2002 by Juliet Nasuuna to transform the lives of orphans, vulnerable children and other dispossessed young people. She herself was orphaned, but was later fostered by Christian relatives who inspired her to start this scheme to care for other orphans and vulnerable children.  Project Shalom is a registered charity no. 1136019 under the UK charity commission as well as a registered Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), situated in the Jinja area, in the east of Uganda.
The Centre gives young people immediate care to help them recover from any trauma they have suffered and to regain control of their lives and help give them a normal childhood as well as help them grow to become responsible people.  A lot of the orphans are brought in traumatised and malnourished and sometimes with AIDS, malaria, yellow fever and various infections of the eye and the skin. The Shalom Centre provides the children with a Christian environment, giving them medical care, education and training. The children soon become integrated with other children in the Centre and begin to respond to treatment as well as Christian counselling. Shalom has so far cared for over 64 children and provided foster homes for many others.
A project of this nature in Africa does have several challenges and can be extremely daunting especially when there are never adequate facilities to take in every child brought to the door. It is always heart-breaking to turn some of them away.  Shalom depends on friends, local churches and a few Christian charities for help. The main income is from the founder who sings and writes songs for this good cause. Recently Shalom acquired approximately three acres of farm land for animal husbandry, poultry, fruits and vegetables to supplement its feeding  and would welcome your prayers and donations to enable it to expand further.

Juliet can do all sorts of presentations like power-points of the project activities and the children, Documentary videos, to school assemblies, crafts stalls and any other presentation as it may suite any given audience.
