Young Vocalist Competition

The area 8 final of the Rotary Young Musician Vocalist competition took place in Cowbridge Comprehensive School on the evening of Thursday 6th February. The event, organised by Llantwit Major Rotary club highlighted once again the wonderful musical talent of local youth. Each competitor sang two contrasting songs accompanied on the piano by Adrian Colborne, the school's head of performing arts. Izzy Glynn sang Path to the Moon by Eric Thiman and the well-known I Feel Pretty from Bernstein's musical West Side Story. Olivia Chester performed Max Raeger's Maria Wiegenlied and My Ship by Kurt Weill. Verity-Belle Atkinson followed with Widmung by Schubert and a very expressive rendition of the amusing The Girl in 14G by Janine Tesori. The winner of the competition was Charlotte Adams who will go forward to the District final to be held in Ebbw Vale on March 8th. She sang Bononcini's Per la Gloria d'adorarvi followed by the popular Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera. Llantwit Major's club president nominee Rotarian David Rogers complimented the competitors for the very high standard of their performances and thanked the judges Iona Jones and Nic Treharne for the unenviable task of finding a winner from such a strong field.
