Laurencekirk Rotary Members organise & marshal Sports Relief event
On Sunday 23rd of March, members from the Laurencekirk and District Rotary Club met at Laurencekirk Primary School to assist in the organisation and Marshalling for the 'Sports Relief' mile.
Refreshments were organised for runners in the school hall and tables were set up for people who had not already registered online.
Laurencekirk Primary was the official run site for the Sports Relief Event and runners paid for the privilege of running either 1, 3 or 6 miles and their donations all went towards the Sports Relief fund raising total!
There was great enthusiasm and encouragement from Rotary members to paricipants of the event, but unfortunately this year, there but was a very poor response to the run with only 20 people locally applying to it.
Despite the low numbers, there was a great atmosphere amongst the runners, the youngest of which was 18months old! They all received a medal on completion of the run and refreshments in the school Hall after.
The weather stayed dry and all the Marshals from the Laurencekirk and district Rotary enjoyed being outside and guiding people round the route.
I think Sports relief overall beat all the records in terms of the fund raising for this overall event this year, which is great news!
