The Rutherglen & Cambuslang Foodbank working in partnership with Trussell Trust opened its doors at St Columbkille's Church Halls, Rutherglen just before Christmas 2013 and has been so busy that they are now planning the opening of a second bank in the Cambuslang area.
We were delighted to welcome Therese Reid and Annemarie Graham who were able to tell us about the hard work and research required in planning and setting up the foodbank and the developments planned for the future. Therese, who has been involved with the project from it's inception had some moving and heart-warming stories about the difference it had already made to some of the customers who have had to use the service. She also spoke about the amazing generosity of local people and businesses who have supported the project either by volunteering their time or making donations to the food drives.
This was a very thought-proving talk and left us all in no doubt that sadly food poverty is having a significant impact on families across our local area.
