Charities & Causes We Are Supporting

On this page you will find details on the main charities and good causes we are supporting during the 2014/15 Rotary year.

During the 2014/15 we have selected the following charities/good causes to be the main benefactors of our fund-raising efforts.  We will also be giving money to many local casues through our annual Christmas rounds as well as doing other means of service - such as collections for the local food bank, a clothes collection for the Shekinah Mission and other "hands-on" projects where we go out and do things within the community.

It will be no surprise considering club President Darren's work at District level towards Rotary's End Polio efforts that the "End Polio Now" campaign is one of the two "President's Preferred Charities" for the year.

Maintaining awareness of the campaign is key to its success so the club efforts will be aimed more towards that than raisining funds.

Plymouth has strong links with the Royal Marines and whilst researching his family tree, Club President Darren discovered his Grandfather and Great Grandfather served in "the Corps".  Therefore as a way of giving something back, the second "President's Preferred Charity" for the year is the "Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund".

The Rotary Foundation is Rotary's very own charity and helps fund many projects undertaken by Rotary clubs as well as funding other "international" based projects.  Funds can be used for projects at home and like many other Rotary clubs, some funds raised during the year will be going to support the Foundation.

RAYS Aasha Ki Ek Kiran is a chidrens home in Jaipur India for children with HiV.  Our club International Service Manager, Clare Thomas is looking to help fund a cafe at the home along with a school room to help make the home self suficient as well as providing a means of a good education for the children.  It is anticipated that this project will benefit from Foundation money.

On the international front, we will also be supporting Caroline Pover and her efforts to help those still suffering following the eartquake in Japan a few years ago.

As a club we will be helping to fund Caroline's Oshika library project.

Action for Children have teamed up with us this year to organise "Bearonimo" - our Teddy Bear parachuting event.  Proceeds from the day will be split between our club supported charities and Action for Children.
