Tim's Valedictory Speech
Past District Governors, Past Presidents, Future Presidents...and those who have no intention of being President...my fellow Rotarians!
It is a great pleasure to be giving my valedictory speech.
Three years ago, in response to a query from a Past President as to what I wanted to do in "my year", I must confess that the first thought that flashed through my mind was "survive!" However, as time pressed on, I did, of course, come to realise that this - thankfully once in a lifetime opportunity, did give me the chance to do rather more than just "survive".
I said in my inaugural speech that I wanted it to be a triumphant year. Not for me, but for the Rotary Club of Dundee and the memory of Harry Leadbitter, who would, had it not been for his untimely death, have been our District Governor this year.
Has it been a triumphant year? How does one measure "success"?
I understand that one former member, Past District Governor Ian Young, once said that a President could say that he had had a successful year if he had lost no more than two members, and had upset no more than five.
Hopefully on that basis, I can say that we have had a successful year, but I personally believe that this year, in which together we managed to recruit eleven new members, raise over
