The Rotary Club of Idle & Greengates in liaison with local Schools has encouraged participation in the annual Rotary GB&I Technological Tournament competition. Members are therefore delighted to learn that the competition  has been accredited by the British Science Association to the CREST Discovery Awards.

The CREST Awards scheme is the largest and most widely recognised scheme for project work in the STEM subjects ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). It requires a group of four 10-14 year olds to complete at least five hours work on a project in one day.

In the tournament teams of four students are set an unseen technical task to design and build a working model within a given time. The results are competitively tested by a team of judges and recognition is given to winning teams in three age categories.

It is hoped the accreditation will encourage more schools to participate and encourage young people to engage in Science and Technology.
