Blaize Trailers Walk - Helwith Bridge to Horton Bridge
About 6 Miles
The walk this month will start from Helwith Bridge car/picnic Park (see maps & photos), and will Lunch at The Crown Inn, Horton, returning largely via the Ribble Way
Depending upon Weather on the day, the walk will rise to about 350 metres, viewing a number of interesting Limestone features and wonderful scenery, including the well-known Quarries in the area, and the lower reaches of Pen-y-Ghent.
Directions from Bradford, or Ilkley:
A65 - Head (via Skipton Western by-pass) for the township of Settle.Take the Settle town road B6480 at Cleatop roundabout- Do Not use the Settle By-Pass. Proceed through the centre of the Town, turning Right just before the Giggleswick bridge. Take the Langcliffe, Horton & Ribblehead road B6479, and proceed for about 6 Miles to a fork in the road at Helwith Bridge (see Picture). Turn Left for Helwith Bridge (also signposted for Austwick and Dry Rigg/Arcow quarries), going over the Bridge, continuing for a couple of hundred yards, then turn Left again, at the sign for Fly Fishery, and immediately Left again, onto a Parking / Picnic area.
Meet At:: The Picnic area off the Austwick Road
Coffee or Tea, and Biscuits will be served from 10:15am, ahead of a 10:45 departure
Walking and/or Lunching:
Please advise Walk Leader by Wednesday 24TH September for:
If Lunching Only, proceed as above beyond Helwith Bridge, a further 2-3 Miles to The Crown Inn, Horton, for about 12:45-1:00pm (the one just over the first humpback bridge).
Weather: In the event of (very) bad weather the Leader has discretion regarding cancellation of the walk, so if it looks (very) doubtful you may wish to phone my Mobile number before leaving home.
