PRESIDENT Colin MacLaine - Report;-

  1. Visioning and 3 year plan

A (half) day was well spent back in March when the club had a chance to say what it wants to be. This has been a great help in setting direction and in getting us all to think about the future of the Club. Our Vision statement helps too.

Kirkcudbright Rotary is a force for good in the town and also tries to make the world a better place for all, behaving always in a spirit of fun and friendship.

The outcome can be summarised as below:

  • The Club is happy being about the size it is now - we need to recruit to maintain numbers, not to grow big.

  • The Club wants to be respected, inclusive and non-elitist.

  • The Club wants to change its Service focus towards meeting local community needs, with less emphasis on International

  • The local emphasis is on Youth and the less advantaged parts of our community, with less support for those with natural advantages.

  • The Club wants to use our skills to help the community - not just to be seen as a provider of money.

  • The Club needs to be convinced to support Foundation as a Charity which helps us achieve what we want to do.

Each of these has allowed the committees to pick up the baton and get stuck into their plans.

Com / Voc has the hardest job... there are many local needs but they are harder to articulate and to prioritise. Kirkcudbright doesn't look like it has areas of deprivation.. but it does! We are planning a proper audit of skills within the club as part of this.

Youth has been strong in Kirkcudbright in recent years but we are keen to do more and there are several new avenues we'd like to follow including supporting Castle Douglas' Young Carer initiative. The three year plan is an opportunity to schedule new activities.

There are always many good causes that can easily be found internationally and it is important that we fulfil our commitment as part of
