THE ROTARY COAST WALK

THE ROTARY COAST WALK

This was organised by the Rotary Clubs of Southport Meols and Sunrise and took place on Sunday 31st August 2014. The Coastguard Station at Hall Road was the main starting point and Gordon Fraser, Ravi Ravindran, Alan and Ann Deutsch (the team from the Rotary Club of  Formby) were ferried to the start by Mythili Ravindran at 8.30am on the day. All walkers obtained sponsorships to raise money for their chosen charities our team elected to support SHELTER BOXES. The walk was unique in that permission had been obtained to go through the MOD Altcar Training Camp. Fortunately we were able to dodge the ongoing rifle practices. The full walk was 13miles along various terrains and sometimes difficult, especially over the last 2 or 3 miles where we encountered marshy ground necessitating dodging small rivulets and relatively deep puddles. All of us finished the course  (except Ann she finished at Ainsdale, 8 miles completed the shortfall was due to the recurrence of an old injury) and made our way to Victoria Park, Southport where a ROTARY FEST  had been organised. This was a successful Family Fun Day and again the money raised went to various charities. The Formby teams sponsorship raised 130 and the Rotary Club will contribute the remainder  to purchase a complete SHELTER BOX.
