What is RYLA?
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is Rotary's leadership training program for young people. Started in Australia in 1960 the programme is run all over the world by Rotary Clubs. The principle aims of RYLA is to provide an effective training experience for selected young people and potential leaders, to encourage leadership of young people by young people and to recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities.
The week involves many activities including rock climbing, abseiling, navigation, team competitions and orienteering. The emphasis is on developing leadership skills, complex problem solving; developing trust, confidence and personal growth.
The course is targeted at 16 - 18 year olds and the next course is from Sunday 23 to Friday 28 August 2015 and Rotary Welshpool is offering a place to local youth. Schools have been contacted to start the application process. If you would like to be considered, contact your school Head Teacher first.
