On Wednesday 26th Nov we were delighted to welcome to our meeting the ladies from Cambuslang Inner Wheel, along with a number of former members and guests. President Robert greeted all our visitors and over 40 of us sat down to enjoy some light hearted chat and reminiscing over an excellent dinner provided by the Kings Park compared with our usual meeting numbers the waiters had to work a little harder to get all the extra plates out!
The meal was followed by the more serious part of the evening, the talk from speaker Campbell Thomson on the Lanarkshire Yeomanry and their experiences in WW1. Campbell had spoken to us on a previous occasion and once again he held his audience enthralled as we followed the Yeomanry in their travels to Gallipoli, the Middle East and finally in 1918 to France. His excellent photographs and moving extracts from soldiers diaries and letters home gave a graphic impression of the horrors and tragedy they encountered. It was obvious from the comments afterwards that his audience had found his talk not just educational but moving and thought provoking.
