Rotary Club of Tywyn supporting Young People

The Rotary Club of Tywyn has many projects were we give young people the opportunity to develop their skills and experiences.

Young Chef of the Year

Working with Tywyn school we have a cooking competition to find Chef of the Year.

Contestants are from year XX and are taking Food Technology as part of their GCSE

The pupils design a meal on a particular theme and then have to cook it in a limited time. The resulting meals are judged by a professional chef. The winner goes on to the district competition

Following on from the success of this competition a new Junior Chef competition has been developed.

Young Musician of the year

Tywyn school has some brilliant musicians and each year a competition is held to find this talent

Outward Bound

Each year we send two pupils in year 11 to Ulswater Outward Bound school. This is a report from 2014.

In July of this year I went on a three week classic Outward bound course at Ullswater in the Lake District.  This was a great opportunity to gain new experiences in outdoor activities, meet new people, and to develop new skills such as teamwork and leadership.  Whilst there, I did many fun and challenging activities, such as a four day expedition, gorge walking, sailing, a 24 hour solo camping experience, and canoeing.  My favourite activity during the time was the multi-pitch climb day, where we climbed over 70m, as it was so exciting and exhilarating, and it was a great achievement to get to the top! I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Tywyn for the opportunity and the funding, as I had an amazing time there.
