Rotarian Dieter Shaw gave a talk on Rotary Foundation as follows :-
GLOBAL GRANTS
Dieter explained the importance of our Foundation Funds which are at the heart of Rotary. 50% of all contributions from Districts worldwide are returned and used as Global Grants or District Grants. As Global Grants the funds are used to upscale capital international projects to help the needy in many ways. By inter-club and district co-operation significant sums can support substantial projects antwhere in the world. With a minimum project budget US dollars 30,000 Districts are required to supply 10,000 dollars and clubs and others a further 10,000 dollars . This results in a doubling of the District contribution (DDF) and an uplift of 50% for club funds. The maximum project value is 200,000 dollars.
Given the size and importance of these projects, extra safeguards are built into the Global Grant on-line application. Sustainability, Rotary and local community involvement, maesurable outcomes and strist financial controls are top of the list for projects. Such projects encompass peace and conflict resolution and prevention, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education/lieracy, and economic and community development. Each Rotary Region has dedicated grant administrators at Evanston who are only too happy to help applicants on their way and who keep a watch on the emerging applications. The reduction in income from Rotary investments has led to request for clubs to supplement each grant with 5% to defray addituional administration costs.
