Garden outside library opened

Last autumn a new garden was planted by the charity Llanilltyd Fawr in Flower next to the Llantwit Major library. The club sponsored this garden, paying for all the shrubs, two cherry trees, 1,000 daffodils and all the planting materials. The opening ceremony was attended by those who helped create the garden and, with the daffodils shining, the plaque was jointly unveiled by Tina Benfield, Chair of Llanilltyd Fawr in Flower and club President Mary Noyes. Tina thanked the Rotary club for our donation which has transformed a rough piece of grass and brightened up a corner of Llantwit which can now be enjoyed by passers-by and visitors to the library and surgery.

Tina also thanked Simon Morgan of Mossfords Memorial Masons for donating the plaque on an attractive beach boulder. Mossfords are donating the money they would have charged to fund a Shelter Box, one of Rotary's key charitable causes, and in doing so Llantwit's environment and worldwide disaster victims will both have benefited from this small garden. Very importantly she thanked the 10 volunteers from Llanillytud Fawr in Flower for planting everything and expressed particular gratitude to Tim Draper for planning and organising it all.

President Mary, on behalf of the Rotary club, thanked Tina and the volunteers. She recognised that the group had worked so hard over the years in planting beds which beautify the town and Rotarians felt that they fully deserved support for this new venture.
