"Friendship for older people"

That is the motto of the Cornwater Club, a charity based in Ravenshead, which was the subject of an illuminating ‘My Job’ presentation by Rotarian Melissa Blythe on May 5th.

A short DVD showed how the club, which has members from several local communities, provides a four-days-a-week programme of activity, stimulation and friendship, thus helping to prevent the social isolation that can be so debilitating for senior citizens.

Mel then explained her job as Marketing Manager: to promote not only the club, but also its charity shop in Mansfield, as well the ‘Friends’ donation scheme and lottery. An important part of her work, she explained, was organising a presence at the many local fairs and information events, telling the public about the Cornwater Club and making valuable networking in the municipal and welfare fields
