The Sportsman's Dinner held in Kirkhill Bowling Club on Friday 10th April was a great success. The evening was chaired by Guy Miller who is a past Rotarian from the Carluke Club and he kept the event running smoothly and to time.
There were 101 attendees who enjoyed an excellent meal prepared by Willie McCallum and his catering team. Following the meal we were entertained firstly by Jim Leishman who recalled stories from his early days in football with Dunfermline Athletic and he interspersed these with many other funny moments from his career in sport.
Our second speaker was Eric Davidson (who you will see at the Edinburgh Fringe if you go there) and he entertained us for over 45 minutes. Not only did he have his laughing at his jokes; he also accompanied them by playing his Ukulele!
Jim Leishman also conducted our auction and helped us raise a magnificent £1,700.
The reason for holding this event was to raise money principally for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and Sense Scotland but we are also giving some of the proceeds to our Local and International Charities.
At the end of the evening we had raised the sum of £4,500 which will greatly help our nominated Charities. Many thanks to all who contributed to the success of the evening.
