At the Third Stroke: the Speaker is a consultant cardioloigist

Wed 19th August 2015 at 19.00 - 20.00

Dr Antony French, a Consultant Cardiologist, spoke to the Club about his work

Antony French, a Cardiac Consultant at Worcester Royal Hospital, gave us a short introduction to cardiology. He told us about about the early inventions, including ECGs, that are now our major diagnostic tools, albiet now with massive computer power for Ultrasound, MRI and CT scans. He described interventional cardiology as the plumbing side, whilst his work was the electrician element - helping heart rhythm with pacemakers. I think all were amazed at the dummy pacemakersand catheters he showed us - not to mention the cost of each piece of equipment! The annual numbers were a revelation.  We realise how lucky we are to be in England with all these diagnostic tools and experienced surgeons. A brilliant talk!
