Just in time within President Rod’s year, his favoured project, the Memory Café opened at Crossley House, next to the Burton Market Hall on 30th June 2015. The café will be open every Tuesday, from 10:00 to 2:00, primarily designed to support people living with dementia and their carers. The café will allow people to meet up and talk about any problems that they may have in a friendly, safe and non-judgemental environment.
Light refreshments, tea, coffee, cakes and scones, will be available to help to provide a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. In addition to professional assistance from, amongst others, staff from the hospital, the Alzheimer's Society and Dementia Care and members of the Rotary club.
Age UK Burton will hold an Information & Advice Surgery at the Memory Cafe on the last Tuesday of each month from 10am to 12 noon.
Citizens Advice Bureau advisers will be at the Memory Cafe on the second Tuesday of each month to offer advice from 10am to 1pm.

From the Burton Mail
A MEMORY café designed to support people living with dementia and their carers is now up and running.
The brainchild of Rod Gent, president of Burton Rotary Club, the café, based in Crossley House, next to the Burton Market Hall, runs twice a week and provides an opportunity for carers to meet up and discuss issues.
Speaking after the official opening, Mr Gent said: "We had people come in for cake and coffee and sit down and talk to other carers. We had a family come just before the café closed and they were very grateful to meet and talk to other carers, just to relax. It is a place for people to relax with others without people looking at them."
Bob Hunter-Harris, from Tutbury, visited the café at the same time as the Mail and was on hand to provide musical entertainment during the grand opening on Tuesday. The 53-year-old has been living with depression and dementia for 10 years. He said: "I want to know how other people with dementia are running their lives as I know it is different from me."
Mr Gent said: "With an increasing elderly population and people living longer, more and more people are suffering from dementia. In discussion with the Alzheimer's Society and the Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust it has become apparent that there is a need for a facility to be provided in the town."
Crockery and cutlery will be shared with the charity MENCAP, and cakes are supplied by Summerhouse Bakery.
