Environment

Rotary Clubs across the North West and the Isle of Man are active in promoting Environmental projects within their Communities.

Rotarians are encouraged to promote sustainability, and reduce their own carbon footprints.

Rotary Environmental Sustainability Policy

Our Rotary District (1285) won the National RotaryGBI Environmental Award in 2006 (seven Bolton clubs for The Rotary Way Footpath), and 2010 (Rochdale Rotary Club for Urban Farm Planters).

Angela Robbins Environmental plans for 23/24

We had a meeting today (5th June 2023) and it was agreed that as Environment month is April, and Earth Day April 22nd, that we would have a;

1) Big Spring Clean on Saturday 20th. Clubs to choose where they go and which day they go on. Probably the morning and then all photos and stories collated by me. Any local country park or town centre and concluding with a cup of tea of coffee so that it’s a social for clubs and any friends, family and volunteers who want to join in.

 Also, as in Plant a tree in '73, we are having

2)Plant a tree in 23, more in 24. Free saplings to be investigated from the Woodland Trust for clubs to plant in November 2023. It is also coronation year, so we could call it a Coronation Tree similar to the Queen’s Green Canopy

The video below was produced by Wigan Rotarian Stan Cooper, a former science advisor for Wigan, with help from staff and students at St John Rigby College.
