Speaker Amy Hart - RYLA candidate

Tue, Oct 6th 2015 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

On Tuesday 6th October Kilrymont Rotary were pleased to have Amy Hart to speak at their meeting.  Amy was our sponsored candidate to RYLA camp at Nethy Bridge leadership course in July.  This is a course for 15-17 year olds.  Although she has been a leader with the Brownies for the past two years she has found the experience to have provided her with even greater confidence to pursue her intended career in literature (she is already a published poet).  Since she was following in her sister Stephanie’s footsteps she had some inkling what she was letting herself into – rock climbing, canoeing, gorge walking, archery and problem solving exercises.  Most activities take part in small groups of eight with rotating leadership roles.  Whilst she may never become an expert raft builder she is more confident meeting new people and taking responsibility as a team mentor.  The week was certainly not all get up and go.  There was plenty of time to socialise with a quiz night , movie night, even a talk from a Rotarian night and time just to sit around the camp fire.  Amy passed all her assessments with flying colours and is looking forward to using her new skills when she moves to the next phase in her life.  We look forward to following her progress in the years to come.
