Tue, Dec 1st 2015 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Sandy Wallace, of East Neuk Emergency Trust, gave a talk about the charity's work to St. Andrews Kilrymont Rotary Club.

The organisation, formed in 2002, helps people experiencing financial difficulties or a crisis in their lives with emergency funding.  Sandy said that cases are referred to ENET by social services or health professionals.  He gave examples of a young woman who was assaulted at a cash machine and had all her money stolen and another where parents in desperate financial circumstances were helped with bus fares to visit their sick child in hospital.

The trust, which received charitable status about seven years ago, raises funds through various events and also donations from other charitable trusts.  When first established, the trust use to receive one application a month. Now it often deals with two pleas for assistance per week.  Frequently it offers help for people with very little money who need home furnishings and the trust can use the services of the Castle Furniture charity.

Sandy accepted a cheque for £500 from the Rotary club. Rotarian Bruce Clark proposed thanks for Sandy's informative talk.
