'The Rotary Foundation', Update from PDG Allan Maclaughlan

Wed, Sep 23rd 2015 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

.

Our speaker was Club member PDG Allan Maclaughlan who gave an update on the work of Rotary’s Foundation charity, .

Polio had been almost wiped out worldwide. There was, however, a problem in The Ukraine which was thought to have been caused by the vaccine used.

The charity was still making money but not as much as previously. Allan then explained the measures he and his committee were taking to correct this.

- Gift cards would be sold. The recipient, instead of receiving a gift, would be advised that money would be given to Foundation.

- A new a more colourful gift aid form would be issued.

- The purple crocus project was on going. A very large box could be purchased for the sum of £85.

- Eric Knowles, from the BBC programme ’The Antiques Road Show, had been enlisted to help Foundation over the next few years. His first project would be to make a publicity video to celebrate the 100 anniversary of Foundation.

- The Foundation newsletter was being redesigned to make it ‘snappier’. As well as being as online, paper copies would  be available.

Allan finished with a request for more Foundation Sustaining Members. The cost is as little as $100 per year which is approximately £5 per month. Application forms are available from Andrew Clark. He would be delighted if our Club could be the first in our district to have 100% Sustaining Members.

The club’s vote of thanks was given by Hendrik Nahler.
