Our speaker was Stewart Houston whose subject was Tales from the Courts. He is a member of Biggar Rotary Club and, before retiring, had been a Procurator Fiscal in various part of Scotland. At one time the fiscal’s job was to collect fines. Stewart was glad this was no longer the case.
He told us that happenings in criminal courts could be very amusing. Civil courts tended to be much more serious dealing, as they did, with more domestic problems.
Stewart proceeded to tell us a range of very amusing tales from his time as a Procurator Fiscal. He assured us that many of these were true but some were clearly apocryphal.
This was one of the most amusing speakers the Club has had for some time.
A vote of thanks was given by Mike Rowe.
