26th August 2015 - Pakistan is getting there - Aziz Memon

Tonight Aziz Memon, Chairman of the Pakistan Polio Plus Committee and is speaking to us from Pakistan about the work being done to eradicate Polio in Pakistan

We hold an online "Speaker Meeting" every Wednesday evening at 19.30 BST [GMT+1 London] online using video conferencing from Zoom Cloud Meetings - to join us simply use: Rotary E-Club of East Anglia's Weekly Zoom Meeting, https://zoom.us/j/470985565

Meeting: Thursday 26th August - Wednesday 2nd September 2015

President's Prattling ...

This morning [Thursday] was an interesting experience because through social media I was private messaged that there was a charter celebration for the "eRC of St George Next Gen" taking place in Australia for a new eClub. Feeling happy and as I had the Zoom meeting number I thought it would be neat to visit them online, so I contacted a few of our members and David McC and me logged in and found there was a hotel room full of people, and i do mean a room full!

Online were about 12 others from eClubs around the world and our friend Jean Paul from the Franchophone eClub and Tim Mason & Adrian Brewer from the D1100 eClub were online too. Th eUK was well represented. A good get together and in Australia too - they were drinking wine [as it was about 10pm there] and we were drinking coffee (honestly!)

This just shows, not only the power of social media communication, but that eRotary has no boundaries and endless opportunity. eClubs can transcend traditional barriers - however I do believe that there is nothing stopping a traditonal club doing what we did so hopefully it is only a matter of time before all Rotary clubs see opportunity in eRotary.

Eclub charter Australia

There has also been two new eClubs announced in the UK so we are growing - the eClub D1200 and the eClub of Wales and West.

 Club Happenings ...

I am trying to keep up to date with birthdays so if I miss one let me know please ... on the 24th August our member James Martin celebrated getting older and wiser.

Norman Allington from Felixstowe has enjoyed his visits online to us and has said so on last week's asynchronous comments .... glad it is working and being used gradually.

I am speaking at the RYLA week next week to 50 young people about what rotary is all about so that should be fun as I used to bethe RYLA Officer some years ago.

Last week's visitor Anna-Marie has indicated that she would like to join us and David and I have chatted on a video call with her and when she gets back from Athens we are going to meet up for a coffee [as she actually lives near to me coincidentally] and progress things. Emma is another person who is out of the country at the moment but is planning on joining us when her workload has eased a bit next month.

If you have people you think would love to join us then let David or me know.

Some Rotary clubs think really big, - a club in India decided to launch an essay contest. Who’s eligible?

Their answer, “all the citizens of the world.” Cool! Here is the President's letter .... food for thought too!

"Dear Rotarian, I am President of Rotary Club of Pune Katraj, RI District 3131, India. I am proud to be a Rotarian and pleased to have had the opportunity to lead my club. I welcome you all to the new Rotary Year and wish you all the very best for the coming year.

As Rotarians, together we will make this world a better place to live. I am writing to you all to appraise you on a unique event that we are organizing again this year. After the huge success that we had in the year 2013-14, we are again back with ROGEC-2015, a global essay competition with a view to crusaders of Peace in a constructive dialogue and allow them a platform to express themselves on global issues concerning Peace.

This competition is open to all the citizens of the world. The winners will be invited to India for 5 days and will get involved in various informative and cultural activities. The essays can be submitted online at http://www.rogec.org/registration.html. The last date for essay submission is 10-Nov-2015. Detailed information is available on www.rogec.org and please Like our Facebook page on www.facebook.com/Rotary.Rogec.

I request you to circulate this mail among your members, friends and acquaintances, share this information through your Club bulletins and encourage participation in this event. Looking forward to a great year ahead.
