On the evening of Friday 11 September, the Club in conjunction with Cheltenham Rugby Club held a very enjoyable and successful dinner at Newlands Park, Southam to help raise funds for Life Education Caravans. Life Education is a charity which goes out to schools with a purpose built mobile teaching unit and specially trained teachers to help youngsters make positive and healthy lifestyle choices. Many young children in the area will have probably experienced a visit to their school from a Life Education Caravan and may well have also met Harold the friendly giraffe puppet who helps the teachers. The Life Education charity is supported by Rotary Clubs across the county of Gloucestershire.
After dinner, Chris White, whistle blower for 50 rugby internationals, told amusing stories about his experience refereeing major games. Chris started refereeing whilst still at Pates and before he took up refereeing professionally was a schoolteacher at St Mary’s Junior School, Prestbury. During previous Rugby World Cups, he has been considered the finest referee in the world.
Chris is now Manager of the Rugby Football Union Referee Academy.
The event raised £650.
