On
Thursday 12th November the Rotary Club of South Queensferry held a business
meeting followed by an extraordinary general meeting.
Jim McCulloch reported on
the recent District Conference in Dundee which was attended by a large
contingent of Queensferry Rotarians. All agreed that the conference had been a
great success for District Governor Andy Ireland and his team, with an
enjoyable programme of social events and stimulating, thought-provoking
talks from visiting speakers including club member Gordon McInally, whose theme
was Hope and Homes for Children. President Kate Gibb thanked Sandy Mackenzie
for arranging the club's schedule.
In other business, Lee McCombie read a
letter of thanks from Médecins Sans Frontières
(MSF) to which the
club recently donated £500. The situation in Syria was the bleakest the writer
had ever encountered, with the organisation being forced to withdraw all
international staff from the country and rely on supporting Syrian doctors by
internet consultancy and supply of medicines. In these circumstances, every
contribution was vital and most gratefully received.
David Buchanan reported on
the Interact Club at Queensferry High School which is supported by the Rotary Club.
The young members are currently meeting daily and are well on the way to
reaching their target in the Shoebox Appeal.
In
the EGM, it was announced that Sandy Mackenzie had been elected to serve as
club president in Rotary Year 2018 - 2019. Sandy was warmly congratulated by
everyone present.
