The guest speakers at last weeks meeting of Duns Rotary Club were Sue Zacharias and Sophie Robson of Les Amis D’Onno, the premier UK equine – canine stunt team from Lanton Hill Farm near Jedburgh.
The Les Amis Team specialise in providing highly skilled, professional performances to thrill and entertain audiences of all ages. Their performances include cabaret, equestrian theatre, main arena shows, county shows, jousting and filming. Sue and Sophie gave a fascinating presentation on their work, which clearly covers a wide area of activities,
Les Amis d'Onno was founded by the Martin Family in France in 1999 and the name means "The friends on Onno" Onno is one of the founding horsey members of the troupe!
The team has seven full time performers and 16 horses, and has been based here in the Scottish Borders since 2008. The team members all multi-task and share the various responsibilities in order to maximize their talents.
Sophie Robson is a qualified dressage teacher, horse trainer, squire, groom, acrobatic dancer & knife throwers assistant. Sophie oversees the care and management of the horses and is one of Les Amis d'Onno's top female trick riders.
Sue Zacharias (Martin) is a lorry driver, motorcyclist, escapologist, stunt rider, fire-breather, costume maker & trick-riding teacher. Sue spent 14 years in France working with circus & equestrian theatre shows, training horses & making costumes. She manages the office and also designs all the artwork associated with Les Amis d'Onno.
Club members were surprised to hear of such an impressive organization being based here in the Borders and none of them having heard about them, and the presentation was followed by some lively questions and discussion. Perhaps they will appear at the Duns Show next year.
