Dinner - Speaker is Sara Ling intro by Stephen M, Fellowship Nigel W and Brian T

Thu, Apr 28th 2016 at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Nadia Whitmore was speaking on NSPCC.
And the new RYLA Camp candidates for this year were also introduced.

The guest speaker for the evening was Nadia Whitmore, from the NSPCC (National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children).  She had come across from her base in Glasgow to give a great presentation, covering the various programmes run by the NSPCC ranging from Childline to 'Share Aware', designed for parents to help their children stay safe on social networks, apps and games.  Indeed Jeff Abbott suggested that Share Aware was something Rotary nationally ought to be able to help with.  Details of the various NSPCC programmes can be found by clicking on

www.nspcc.org.  The interest from members was reflected in the number of questions Nadia fielded from the floor.  The club presented her with a cheque for £100

The members were pleased to meet this year’s two RYLA Candidates, Rebecca Blaikie and Joseph Donkin. They will both be sponsored by the club to attend the week camp in July. Rotary Youth Leadership Award events  are for young people aged 16 to 17 years, who are about to start their working lives or to enter higher education, and who have shown leadership potential and are likely, as adults, to become future leaders.  Students are put into mixed groups of complementary ability where they take part in outdoor activities.  They are placed in challenging situations to help develop leadership and team bonding skills and to increase personal confidence.  Our candidates always have a wonderful time, and the club congratulated Rebecca and Joseph on being chosen.
