B & F Meeting 03/11/2015

B & F Update

A capacity audience of over 300 looks likely for the forthcoming special performance of T S Eliot’s epic ‘Murder In The Cathedral’, being staged by the Phoenix Theatre Company in the authentic setting of St Asaph Cathedral, members were told at a business and fellowship meeting at Faenol Fawr. Past President Gareth Wynne Jones reported bumper sale of tickets for the eagerly-awaited event at the Cathedral on Saturday November 21, being organized by the Vale of Clwyd’s four Rotary Clubs in aid of charities. A limited number of tickets were still available and it was confidently expected that the one-off performance could produce a profit in excess of £2,000. Meanwhile, last year’s beaten finalists Rhyl, face a tough away test in the annual Rotary District Quiz after being drawn away to Rhos-on-Sea in the second round on Thursday November 19. Past President Rod Brocklehurst called for maximum support from members for the club’s team as they looked to go one better this time and bring the trophy to Rhyl to mark the 90th anniversary of its founding being celebrated in 2016, with an historic success. Social secretary Mike Howarth announced a host of visits and trips currently under active consideration spread over the year ahead, including a return outing to Bangor-on-Dee Races as well as a walk on the Llangollen Canal towpath, a tour of the Lady Lever Art Gallery and Port Sunlight village, a ride on the Snowdon Railway and a repeat visit to the Village Bakery near Wrexham, among others. Earlier the meeting confirmed the election of its officers for the anniversary year: President Mike Parry; Senior Vice-President Rod Brocklehurst; Junior Vice-President Keith Roberts, Secretary Gordon Marshall and Treasurer John Williams.
