Young Chef Competition

The Rotary Young Chefs Competition.  It may not quite be Masterchef, but you can be sure that the effort being put into it is just as involving.  Each year the national Rotary movement holds this competition for young people.  The first stage is held at local Rotary level, with winners progressing to District, Regional and, finally, the National competition.

This year’s local heat was held in Dunblane High School, with three contestants each required to prepare in two hours a two course meal for two within a budget of £15. The criteria, as well requiring  a tasty and healthy meal, also include demonstrating presentational skills, and considering food hygiene issues.  The difficult task of judging the meals fell to Shaune Hall, Chief Chef at Forth Valley College, based at the Raploch campus.

The three contestants, Amy Morrison, Tammy Thomson-Hare and Clare Anderson chose chicken-based dishes, all with an international twist, while the desserts produced were all mouth-watering.

After a very difficult judging decision, Amy Morrison, who cooked Moroccan chicken and couscous followed by raspberry cream towers, was declared the winner.  She will now go forward to the District final.
