Kits for Causes - January 2016

This project has now finished.

The Rotary Club of Burgess Hill & District is supporting this small charity which collects unwanted football kit and distributes it to children in developing countries worldwide. Kits4Causes (www.kits4causes.org) evolved from a project launched by students at Sheffield University to coincide with the FIFA World Cup in South Africa in 2010. The objective was to distribute football kit to deprived and impoverished children in Africa to give them the opportunity, through playing football, to acquire a range of skills and experiences including teamwork, leadership, discipline, hard work, fitness and improved health.

The charity now distributes football kit worldwide to social development projects in which football is being used as one of the vehicles for social change including the maintenance and development of essential life skills such as those mentioned above. To date over 37000 football shirts have been distributed to around 40 countries.

The Rotary Club of Burgess Hill & District believes that this project is a relatively simple way of giving less fortunate children an opportunity to learn and therefore have a better standard of life. It will be contacting football clubs (adult and youth), schools, other organisations and friends and family with an interest in football to seek donations of kit. Anything from a single shirt, a pair of shorts or a pair of boots up to a set of kit for a whole team (for example when a club changes the design of its shirt) will be welcome.

The Rotary Club will then deliver the items collected to Kits4Causes for onward distribution. If you are able to help please contact Alan Thomas on 07780662257 or email sec.bhrotary@gmail.com or speak to any other member of the Rotary Club.

Kit can also be delivered to Stanley & Partners Letting Agents, 14 Station Road, Burgess Hill, RH15 9DQ who are supporting the project.
