President Lesley Kennedy chaired the meeting, and welcomed twelve other rotarians.
After the meal, and appropriately for this week of Jutland commemorations, president-elect Bill Jones gave a talk on a naval battle that had taken place 222 years earlier.
Referred to as “The Glorious First of June”, it took place in 1794 in the Bay of Biscay between the French Atlantic Fleet and the British Channel Fleet under Lord Howe.
Rather like Jutland, the most significant outcome was that the British naval blockade was able to continue. During the battle, as at Jutland, communicating between ships proved to be a major problem.
Bill Deans gave the vote of thanks, and the weekly draw for the whisky miniature was won by Douglas Dow.
