Old Folks Christmas Party - 7th December 2015

We welcomed 140 local senior citizens to our annual Christmas Party at the Barnstaple Hotel and they all enjoyed another fine afternoon in each other's company. At least twenty of our club members turned up to wait on tables and help keep everything running smoothly. President Mike stood in as MC for our good friend and honorary member Ken Clark whose sparkling wit and banter were sadly missed.

Pilton School supported our party once again with a good number of youngsters who were pleased to kick things off with carols and some fine music. The young girl in the photo sang a lovely version of 'Half The World Away' which features in the current John Lewis advert. They were followed by the excellent Barnstaple Ladies Choir who are always very popular with our party guests. Well done to our own Tina Williams who was in great form as always.

Time for food and the hotel laid on ample sandwiches, cakes and refreshments for our old folk. There was a good buzz around the Arlington Suite as they enjoyed being waited on by Barnstaple Link Rotarians.

It was obvious that many of our guests regard the bingo as the highlight of the afternoon although some might have struggled to interpret Lew’s unique take on bingo calling. Anyway the level of concentration was apparent.  Then before you knew it, it was time for the raffle and time to wrap things up for another year. These years don’t half fly by quickly!
