Robert Burns Evening

Thu, Jan 21st 2016 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Annual Burns celebration, with partners invited

President Mairhi Trickett chaired last week's Rotary Club's Burns' Supper held in Thorterdykes Roadhouse.  She welcomed members and their wives and especially guests from Leicestershire, Linden Warburton's brother and his wife who were attending their very first Supper.  They were fortunate to experience an excellent traditional Supper from the moment when Howard Walker piped the haggis in borne aloft by Lyndsay.  Gus Neilson addressed the haggis with gusto after which a traditional repast was taken.  The singers Joyce Tinlin, Pat Sutherland and Michael Aitken were their usual inimitable selves accompanied on keyboard by Rosalyn Walker.  Gordon Jackson gave a memorable Immortal Memory which included Burns' historical life and Michael Aitken gets better each time he recites Tam o' Shanter with all his cantrips.  Howard Walker played on his small pipes which he has perfected.  The evening was brought to a close by the President's vote of thanks and the company then joined in Auld Lang Syne.  Our English visitors thoroughly enjoyed their first Supper and had favourable reports to take back across the Border.

The programme was again organised by Rotarian Bobby Cairns to whom warm thanks were accorded.
