Clive commenced a long career in landscape architecture in 1974 with Kirklees Metropolitan Council working within the landscape team and studied for the Landscape Institute external examinations including a twelve month sabbatical at Leeds to obtain a Diploma in Landscape Architecture. During this period with Kirklees, he gained experience with housing, social services and education projects, land reclamation, habitat creation and planning control advice. In 1988 formed his own practice, Clive Horsman Design Studios, and worked on a wide variety of projects including prestigious clients such as Halifax plc, Bradford and Bingley Building Society and Arlington Business Parks.
In 1996 he merged his practice to form the Horsman Woolley partnership based in Hebden Bridge which, in 2002, became a limited company and subsidiary of the multi-disciplinary Robinson Design Group. As part of a Group re-branding, the practice was re-named Robinson Landscape in 2004 with Clive remaining as Director.
Since May 2005, Clive has been a regular visitor to China supporting Robinson's joint venture architecture office in Chengdu with his landscape team. 2010 saw the first project in Kuala Lumpur working with architects in Singapore. In February 2011, Clive moved to Shanghai full time to become Landscape Director at Atkins Asia Pacific to oversee their landscape design operation across China and SE Asia with staff located in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. In March 2015, after 40 yrs practicing landscape architecture,
Clive took early retirement and returned to the UK to focus on a variety of interests including worldwide business consultancy as well as indulging in his passion for photography covering architectural, interior, documentary, landscape and fine art photography. In May 2015 he also took on the role of European Director for Chinese company SBCA Ltd (Shanghai Baomei Cultural Arts) to help identify emerging photographers and artists and provide exposure in China.
