Witney Supports Polio Eradication

Sat, Apr 9th 2016 at 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The latest results provided by the International campaign to Eradicate Polio from the face of the Earth,

Generous support for Rotary Street Collection

From a total of over 365,000 cases a year in 1985, the number of Polio cases in 2015 was less than 100. But even that relatively small total is still too many.

The aim of the International Polio Eradication Campaign is to bring the annual count down to zero.... AND keep it at that level. Only when that happens for a period of three consecutive years will the planet be considered to be Polio Free and the International Polio Eradication Teams will feel that the end of the fight is in sight

Until that happens children in some parts of the world are still suffering from the effects of this terrible disease. Until Polio is stopped Children everywhere are at risk.

“Polio’s pretty special because once you get an eradication, you no longer have to spend money on it; it’s just there as a gift for the rest of time.” Bill Gates
