Each year since 2011 the Rotary Club of Mirfield together with other local Rotary Clubs have held a walk along the Calder and Hebble Navigation and the Huddersfield Narrow and Broad canal tow paths and have, through the generosity of the walkers and their sponsors, raised over £60,000 which has been equally shared between the four Hospices along the route. The Boxing Day floods, which brought devastation to many areas, caused significant damage to the tow paths, bankings and bridges along major sections of the Navigation Walk route thereby forcing the decision to cancel the walk planned for 2016. The Canal and River Trust, along with the local authorities, should have everything repaired to enable a walk to be organised for Spring 2017 but Rotary are conscious that the Hospices will not receive the benefit of donations from the planned walk in 2016.
We are disappointed that the 2016 walk had to be cancelled.
